Raised Bed Gardens

What if I already have an existing raised bed garden?

No problem! We come out to diagnose the state of your current garden and make a plan to get it to the Harvest to Home standard producing a bountiful harvest. Soil is the key to any garden and we strongly recommend using at least 12” of our special organic soil (plants take nutrients in the first 12”).This is fine, what is the status of the bed? Does it need new soil? Plants? Irrigation? Our soil is strongly recommended since it is specifically blended for vegetable gardens. All prices are standard and itemized but irrigation will vary upon the situation. You can send in pictures and measurements also choose your plants. We can also do an evaluation but we cannot credit them for it since it’s not a new RB. This is fine, what is the status of the bed? Does it need new soil? Plants? Irrigation? Does the garden need to sit on top of soil or can it go on concrete?

Most garden sit on soil but we do offer raised beds on stilts to accommodate any situation.

How tall is the wood for the garden?

1Plants take their nutrients in the first 12” so this is our standard height. But we ca build the beds at that height. 18” or 24” are two common heights, the benefit to a tall bed is more good soil and you won’t have to bend over to garden.

How does the irrigation system work?

Ideal situation is to go off of a hose spigot with a battery or solar timer. This is easy to use and we can put a “Y” on the spigot so you can still use your hose. We can also go off of existing sprinklers or irrigation but this should have a dedicated value so we can adjust the times. A vegetable garden must go off once a day for 2-5 minutes depending on the garden and time of year. We can also install a new valve if need be.

How much sun do I need?

The more sun the better! But at least 5 hours of direct sunlight. Some plants like lettuce and greens don’t need as much. Plants like tomatoes or cucumbers that produce fruit need more energy from the sun to create fruit.

How many plants can I fit in my bed?

This depends on what you would like to grow. You can fit 10 lettuce plants in the space it takes to grow 4 tomatoes. Our designers can help you make the right decisions for you and your family.

This totally depends on the plants. You can fit 10 lettuce plants in the space you can fit 4 tomatoes. A 4×8 is a standard size, a 4×16 will give you enough space to grow everything you would like.

What about pests?

For aphids/white flies/and caterpillars we have organic sprays. But a happy healthy garden will fight off most pests. Just like us if we are tired, hungry, dehydrated we are much more likely to get sick. We create an ideal situation for your plants as well as feed them our home brewed compost tea to keep them strong. For animals we have fencing and other garden protection which our designers can review with you at the time of the evaluation.

What if I build own bed?

No problem! We can fill it with soil, fertilizer, amendments and plants. We would need the size, pictures, irrigation situation and plants of choice.
